Internal Practical: Fourth Semester Statistics GE and Program
Suppose you are counting the number of “a” per page in a book. You think there is 25 “a” per page in that book. You want to check whether or not the average number of “a” per page is greater than 25.
(a) What will be your study variable? What will be the probability distribution of that variable?
(b) How will you collect observations? Do you examine all the pages?
(c) What will be the null and alternative hypothesis?
(d) Suppose you have decided that if you get more than 30 “a” per page on an average then you consider that the book has more than 30 “a” per page on an average. What is the chance of committing Type I error with your decision-making rule?
(e) Can you find the chance of committing Type II error?
(f) Suppose one of your friends claims that the book has 45 “a” per page on an average. How do you check the validity of your friend’s performing testing of the hypothesis of level α = 0.05? Select a book and collect data, then make your decision according to the test criteria. What will be the probability of type II error?

External Practical: Fourth Semester Statistics GE and Program
Suppose you are checking the birth ratio in a hospital. You think the ratio is 1:1. Suppose you have collected data on 5 consecutive days and found that total among 52 newborn babies there are 30 boys and 22 girls.
Will you change your mind about the birth ratio? Make your decision rule by performing the testing of hypothesis with a suitable choice of the null and alternative hypothesis. Then make your decision.
